Server: Storage Limits and Usage
Every server includes 60 GB of storage. This article explains what counts toward it, what happens if your server gets close to or goes over it, and how to free up space or add more.
How much storage is included
- 60 GB is included with every server.
- You can add more at €0.30 per GB per month, up to 100 GB. Minecraft and Project Zomboid servers can go up to 150 GB.
- Subscription discounts apply to extra storage too, so it costs less on longer plans.
What counts toward your storage
Your server's own files count: worlds, saves, mods, plugins, configs, logs and anything else in the file manager. The base game installation does not count, except for Minecraft, where the server software is stored with your files.
Our backups don't count. The backups on your server's Backups page are stored separately and included for free. They never use any of your storage.
Some games and mods make their own backups inside your server's files, for example Project Zomboid's in-game backups or Minecraft backup mods. Those are stored with your files, so they do count. See "Common causes" below.
How to see what uses the space
- Open the File Manager for your server. The bar at the top shows how much storage your server uses.
- Click the View options icon (the sliders) in the toolbar and turn on Show file sizes.
- Folder sizes now show next to each folder, so you can see what takes up the most space.
What happens when you get close or go over
- 50%: we send a one-time email explaining how storage works.
- 80%: we send a warning email, and your server page shows a notice. You can turn these emails off under Storage warnings in your email preferences.
- Over 100%: you get 14 days to get back under. We email you when this starts, with the date, and again a few days before. Uploads through the file manager and FTP are paused while you're over.
- Still over after 14 days: the server is stopped and can't be started until it's back under. Stopping never deletes any files. You can still use the file manager to remove files, or add storage, and then start it again.
If a server grows far beyond its storage, to 150 GB, or 50 GB above its storage if you've added more than 100 GB, it's stopped right away, since that much data affects other servers on the same machine.
As soon as your server is back under its storage, the warnings stop. Removing files or adding storage both work.
How to add storage
- Open your server's Settings.
- Find Disk Space and raise it to the amount you need.
- Save. The new storage applies right away, and the extra cost is charged for the rest of your current period.
You can lower it again later, but not below what your server currently uses.
Common causes
Minecraft
- Backup mods or plugins (for example FTB Backups) keeping many full copies of the world. Lower how many they keep in their config, or turn them off, since we already back up your server.
- Map renders from plugins like BlueMap or Dynmap. These can be deleted and rendered again.
- Old or unused worlds.
- A very large explored world. Setting a world border stops it from growing, and tools like MCA Selector can trim areas nobody has visited. Stop the server and take a backup first.
Project Zomboid
- In-game backups in the backups/startup and backups/period folders. Lower Backups Count and set Backups Period to 0 under Backup in your server's settings, then delete the old backups you don't need.
Other games
- Old save backups, unused worlds and logs.
