Minecraft: Upload World

If you have a Minecraft world that you’ve been playing on locally and you’d like to upload it to your Minecraft server at DatHost, this guide will walk you through the process step-by-step. By following these instructions, you'll be able to continue playing on your world with friends or other players using DatHost's server hosting.

Locate Your Minecraft World

Before uploading your world to the DatHost server, you need to locate the world files on your computer.

Windows:

  • Open the Start Menu and type %appdata% into the search bar. Press Enter.
  • Navigate to the .minecraft folder.
  • Open the saves folder. Here, you'll find a list of all your Minecraft worlds. Each world will have its own folder.

macOS:

  • Open Finder and click on Go in the top menu
  • Select Go to Folder and type ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves
  • You'll find all your world folders here.

Linux:

  • Navigate to your Home Directory, then find the .minecraft folder.
  • Open the saves directory where your world files are stored

3

4
Drag & drop your world folder into the minecraftfolder of the File Manager.
5
Reboot the server

That’s it! The server will be rebooted and now load the world you uploaded.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Upload Limitations: If your world is very large and you encounter issues while uploading, consider using an FTP client like FileZilla to upload the files in smaller chunks. DatHost supports FTP connections, and using this method can help with larger worlds.
  • World Compatibility: Ensure that your Minecraft world is compatible with the version of Minecraft your server is running. If your world was created in a different version of Minecraft, you might need to update it first or switch your server version.
  • Server Properties: If your server doesn't load the correct world, double-check the level-name setting in your server's configuration. The name here must match the name of the uploaded world folder exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I upload multiple worlds to my server?

A: You can upload multiple worlds, but the server can only run one main world at a time. To switch worlds, you would need to change the level-name setting and restart the server.

Q: Can I revert to the previous world after uploading a new one?

A: Yes, as long as you back up the original world files before deleting them, you can re-upload and switch back to your old world at any time.
