Valheim: Upload World

Follow this guide to get help locating the world saves on your computer.

In this guide

Locate Local Saves (PC)

The save folder for your local Valheim saves is:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local

From June 2022, worlds are stored in the Steam cloud by default. Move on to the section about Steam cloud saves to find that save folder.

Are you using the Game Pass version of the game? Then you would first need to boot up the game, click “Manage Saves”, and then “Move to Local” in order to find the files in your computer’s folders.
1
Open the Windows File Explorer
2
Navigate to “This PC” and then select “Local Disk (C:)”
3
Go to the “Users” folder and select your user.
4
Navigate to the “AppData” folder and then go to “LocalLow” -> “IronGate” -> “Valheim
Note: The AppData folder might be hidden by default. Check out this guide on how to view hidden folders on Windows 10 and 11.
5
Look for the "worlds_local" folder. Here you should find your world files with the “.db” and “.fwl” extensions.
Note: If you can’t find your world in this folder, go back one step and go to the folder "worlds” instead, it might be there if you haven’t used the world since June 2022.

Locate Steam Cloud Saves (PC)

The folder for your Steam cloud Valheim saves is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\NUMERICSTEAMID\892970\remote

1
Open the Windows File Explorer
2
Navigate to “This PC” and then select “Local Disk (C:)”
3
Navigate to the “Program (x86)” folder and then “Steam” -> “Userdata”
4
In this folder, you will find folder(s) with your numeric Steam ID(s). Select the numeric Steam ID of which where you have the Valheim world stored.
Note: If you have logged in with more than one account on Steam you will have multiple folders.
5
Navigate to the folder “892970” and then “remote” -> “worlds". Here you should find your world files with the “.db” and “.fwl” extensions.

Locate Xbox Saves (Console)

It's currently not possible to transfer the world files directly from your Xbox to a dedicated server. The only workaround available as of now is to log in on a PC using the same account, move the world files off the cloud and then upload them to DatHost. The process would look as follows:

1
Start Valheim on a PC using the Xbox Gamepass version.
Note: You need to log in to the same account as when hosting the world on your Xbox Console.
2
Start the game. Click Manage Saves and then Move to Local on your world, which will transfer the world from the cloud to the local PC.
3
Open the Windows File Explorer
4
Navigate to “This PC” and then select “Local Disk (C:)”
5
Go to the “Users” folder and select your user.
6
Navigate to the “AppData” folder and then go to “LocalLow” -> “IronGate” -> “Valheim
Note: The AppData folder might be hidden by default. Check out this guide on how to view hidden folders on Windows 10 and 11.
7
Look for the "worlds_local" folder. Here you should find your world files with the “.db” and “.fwl” extensions.

Upload World to DatHost

Once you have gathered the world files (.db and .fwl), it’s super easy to upload them to DatHost!

1
Go to your DatHost Control Panel
2
Click Edit on your Valheim Server -> World Manager -> Upload Custom World
3
Drag & drop your world files in the designated area
4
Click Upload World.
That’s it! The server will be rebooted and now load the world you uploaded.
